Everything in Moderation

Minuteman Press Bristol is thrilled to have been appointed as moderators to the Graphic Design Forums. The UK forum for graphic designers is highly regarded, well established and enjoys significant traffic.

The six forums are concerned with graphic design, website design, business, software, general issues and the graphic design market. The forums maintain a high quality of content and are frequented by students and professionals.

Minuteman Press Bristol director Peter Wise said: “The UK Graphic Design Forums is a virtual location where graphic designers, printers, students and others meet together on equal terms and share knowledge. The openness is refreshing and the willingness to help each other impressive. Much of the debate concerns cutting edge concepts, the forums are a fantastic source of knowledge. We are looking forward to our new role.”

The moderator’s role is primarily that of guardian of quality and relevance, forum rule compliance enforcer and occasional adroit arbiter.

Record-number-of-calendar-orders-630x450

It’s a Date!

This year, Minuteman Press Bristol has seen a record number of calendar orders processed, significantly exceeding the number produced in previous years.

The reason for this is that calendars make an excellent marketing tool with the potential to display a corporate identity every month of the year. Calendars prove popular as gifts and can be personalised with photos of friends and family.

Calendars also make for an effective fundraising tool with profits going to a good cause. For example, the Lord Mayors Chapel calendar is sold to raise money for the restoration of the organ. But our favourite calendar design this year has to be the Bristol University Netball Club ‘Get Your Kit Off Calendar 2011’, which demanded special attention!

We’ve had a Makeover!

The print centre frontage at Minuteman Press Bristol has had a makeover. We’ve got a new colour, restoration, a new decal, upgraded lighting and distinctive 3D lettering.

Alexis Jochman, our graphic designer who project managed the redesign, said: “The vision was to bring the high profile location of the print centre frontage up to date, to deliver a degree of sophistication in its look and feel. I am really pleased with the outcome.”

Paper Cost Increases

PrintWeek, 21 May 2010, by Helen Morris:

“Printers are being forced to put up their prices despite the risk of losing business, following last week’s announcement that paper merchants were set to raise prices next month.

However, Peter Wise, managing director of Minuteman Press Bristol, claimed increasing prices would be a last resort for the company. ‘We will not pass on any increases and would rather change suppliers. We are appalled and astonished at print manufacturers’ poor negotiating skills.'”

Minuteman’s YouTube Videos

Minuteman Press Bristol has produced the first in a series of videos aiming to demystify complex subjects in the graphic design and print industry.

Why Do We Need Bleed? is available to view on the Minuteman Bristol website as well as YouTube.

The two-minute video clarifies the often hard to explain topic of bleed, by showing the difference when printing business cards with and without it, and compares the results.

The success of the video is that it gives an insight into the procedures of a working print and design company, namely Minuteman Press Bristol, showing and explaining a project from design through to finish, in a clear and concise way.
