How to design a brochure for your business

Are you thinking about creating new marketing materials for your company? In this post, we look at how to design a brochure for your business.

Brochures are more extensive than a leaflet, so their design process takes longer and it should be well planned. Brochures are great for providing in-depth information about your products or services and they can be a great direct marketing tool.

Promoting products or services with brochures can be very cost-effective, but the design and the quality of the brochure printing are critical to their success. Here are some tips that you should follow when designing your brochure so that it meets your expectations.

Define its purpose

Make sure your purpose is very clear from the beginning. Why do you need a brochure for your business? What would you like to achieve with it? Do you want to use it to provide information about any of your products or services to your visitors? Or perhaps to inform existing customers about a new product? Your objective will determine what you need to do in terms of design to create your brochure.

Choose your fonts

You don’t need many fonts to design a brochure. In fact, you only need three: one for the headings, another one for the subheadings and the third one for body copy font, and these should be in line with your corporate identity. So if you already have a website and other marketing materials, they should all be using the same fonts. Don’t introduce new visual elements that don’t match with what defines your corporate identity, including fonts and colours.

Write great copy

Although the graphic design elements of your brochure are very important –after all, it needs to be eye-catching so that it grabs the attention of your customers and prospects– perhaps the most important part of your brochure is its actual content.

When you start designing your brochure, experiment with the copy to achieve the best end result. Pay special attention to your headlines, as this is what readers will see first (and they might not want to keep reading if they are not interested straight away!).

Use quality images

To make your brochure stand out you need great images. Ideally, you will want to use quality photos from photoshoots that you have made with your products or related to the services you provide. However, if for some reason you don’t have images available, you can use stock images.

Make sure you have the rights to use them commercially and also that their quality is good enough for printing. But perhaps, most importantly, make sure they don’t look like they are stock images. If you have seen them before, or if they look like they could only be used for an ad, it’s best to find an alternative.

Find professional printers

At Minuteman Press, we can design and produce eye-catching brochures for your business. And, of course, we can print your brochure if you prefer to go through the whole process of designing it by yourself. To print it, you need to prepare a digital file that has adequate bleeds and crop marks.

One of the last steps that you will need to take when creating your brochure is choosing the right paper for your project. At Minuteman, we have a variety of high-quality stocks and we can help you choose the best one for you. Brochures are often professionally printed in full colour on gloss art paper, although matt, silk and uncoated paper are also available.
