Minuteman Press unveil new website
Bristol Design and Print Company Minuteman Press have launched their new website.
This is the second generation website for Minuteman Press. The first was introduced 14 months ago and the volume of visits has continued to grow month on month. Indeed, the growth curve has accelerated and this combined with sales originating from the Internet has proven beyond dispute the commercial value of the net.
The Minuteman Press website is comprehensive detailing products, services, clients, location, case studies and importantly environmental protocol. Interestingly, unlike the majority of commercial websites this one is not all about business.
“We wanted to create a community, in this way we have included Bristol and West events section and regular product reviews.” advised Ryan Smith, Minuteman’s Graphic Designer.
“What makes Minuteman Press successful is that we operate in a friendly and open way. Prices are provided up front, there are no nasty hidden design charges, we offer free delivery, we’re easy to talk to and our customers receive the result that they had envisaged; which is not always the case with the online market!” commented Peter Wise.
A call to arts
Following exhibitions of work by local artists Emily Ketteringham and Jason Lunn, Minuteman Press have issued a call to other talented Bristol artists who would like their work displayed prominently in the windows of Minuteman Press' print centre.
The most recent display features the distinctive creations of Emily Ketteringham; a collection of six screen prints and collages depicting colourful buildings and locations in Bristol.
Peter Wise one of the Director's at Minuteman Press commented "The shear number of passers by that stop and smile as they view the artwork displays has been a really pleasant surprise. We had hoped that fellow Bristolians would enjoy seeing Bristol in art and we have not been disappointed."
Ryan Smith, Minuteman Press's Graphic Designer added "The vision was to combine art with commerce; to be able to give something back to the community. It is great that we have been able to achieve this."
Royal Geographical with Empire and Commonwealth
The Royal Geographical Society and the British Empire and Commonwealth museum have teamed up to organise a very special event on Saturday 6 October.
This fascinating day will include a visit to the permanent and temporary galleries of the Empire and Commonwealth Museum; a presentation on the new slavery and abolition exhibition ‘Breaking the Chains’ by Dr Gareth Griffiths the museum’s director, founder and visionary and an accompanied tour of Brunel’s railway station to discover what lies beneath.
The Brunel tour will include the awe-inspiring passenger shed, engine shed, cavernous underground vaults and the neo-Gothic grandeur of Brunel’s Great Western Railway boardroom.
Tickets can be obtained from Minuteman Press in Bedminster, Bristol. 0117 966 5566.
An evening with Tony Bullimore
Bristol’s very own sailing legend Tony Bullimore has been invited by the Royal Geographical Society to present a lecture on his most recent adventure.
For 40 years, he has sailed more than 500,000 miles, crossed the Atlantic over 40 times, and has won over 150 trophies, to establish himself as one of the top yachtsmen of the century. Tony was elected Yachtsman of the Year in 1985 for his outstanding achievements.
The talk will be about the international yachtsman’s latest campaign to challenge the non-stop single handed round the world sailing record held by Dame Ellen Macarthur . Tony’s aim is to break the record in less than 70 days.
Bullimore became famous after surviving the icy waters of the Southern Ocean in an air pocket of a capsized racing yacht in absolute darkness, having lost almost all food supplies for nearly five days; whilst competing in the Vendee Globe non-stop round the world yacht race. The unprecedented experience is the subject of an exhibition at the National Maritime Museum, Falmouth.
The event will take place on Tuesday 11 September, 2007 at 7.30pm. The venue will be the Great Hall, Bristol Grammar School, University Road, Bristol BS8 1SR. Tickets can be obtained in advance from Minuteman Press, 15 – 19 Nelson Parade,
Bedminster, Bristol BS3 4HY.
The Royal Geographical Society Founded in 1830 to promote 'the advancement of geographical science' and given Royal Charter by Queen Victoria in 1859. The learned society and professional body for geography currently lists in excess of 13,000 members worldwide. The Society has supported eminent explorers including Charles Darwin, Sir Edmund Hilary, Henry Morton Stanley and Robert Falcon Scott.
“Speaking in Bristol, my home, where I live is very special for me. The session is billed as a lecture, but will be delivered in the most informal and lively manner! It’s a real honour to have been asked to speak by the Royal Geographical Society. The audience will hear some very special tales I’ve been saving. It will be great fun” advised Tony Bullimore.
Bristol and West Comprehensive
Having lived in the West Country for many years, the team at Minuteman Press realised that they all had a common problem; never knowing what events are on in Bristol, Bath and beyond. So often a great event is reviewed after the occasion, it sounded brilliant – but the trick is then to remember it for next year. Funny, how the event is never recorded successfully from year to year and even when it is, the date is never the same.
Having recognised this problem, the team looked around and found that although some information was available, it was incomplete, difficult to find and in numerous cases entirely inaccurate. An idea was born, the Bristol and West Comprehensive, a definitive events guide that will benefit everyone.
Minuteman Press have done the leg work and collected events information, presented it in an easy to read format and displayed it in their print centre window for all to see. If you want to know what’s going on in the area, just look in the window!
Managing Director Peter Wise commented “It has always personally frustrated me that so many great events take place in the West Country, but I only get to hear of a fraction of them. A comprehensive published listing has been required for so long”.
Peter added “This is just the start of the initiative, the programme will be a continuous rolling twelve month schedule; but to maintain accuracy we need the assistance of everyone. If you have an event addition, email us straight away and we’ll update the schedule”.
Ryan Smith, Design Manager, added “I will be the first to use this listing. When you see just how many quality events are taking place, it really is incredible. I just wish I’d managed to get Glastonbury tickets!”
The Bristol and West Comprehensive event guide is located here.
First book by local authors
Peter and Lucie Wise, best known for being the joint Directors of Minuteman Press in Bristol have teamed up once again, but this time as authors. Peter and Lucie have written a marketing book entitled ‘The Sound of Storensay’. A marketing text written in a most unusual style; as a charming children’s story following the adventures of a group of young friends known as the Puffins.
The unconventional approach has been chosen to increase knowledge retention whilst maintaining a high level of concentration. The reader will find that this business text is like none other previously read. The Sound of Storensay offers an intriguing whilst easy to understand route to writing comprehensive marketing plans. Complex theory is consolidated and established principles explained in worked-through simple to follow examples.
“Our objective was to provide one book, which can be read and understood in several sittings, that will reveal how to write world class Marketing Plans with no previous experience” Peter Wise commented. Lucie added “We noticed a trend in the volume of requests we were receiving for guidance on the creation of marketing plans. In trawling books currently available, we identified an absence of comprehensive texts that were easy to read, affordable and consolidated established and contemporary theory”.
The book also has a website at storensay.com which brings the fictitious isle to life and provides further insight into the six years of research that was required to write The Sound of Storensay.
The original research undertaken in the preparation for the writing of The Sound of Storensay was recognised at the end of last year by the Royal Geographical Society who conferred a Fellowship on Peter.
