The Prisoner

In the view of Minuteman Press Bristol one of the most iconic fonts ever created is Village. The font was developed for use in the 1967 (now cult) television series The Prisoner, which was co-created by and starred Patrick McGoohan (1928 - 2009).

Village font is an adaptation of Berthold Wolpe's (1905 - 1989) glyphic, serif typeface Albertus. Wolpe was a metal engraver, he designed Albertus to represent engraving on bronze.

Other Minuteman Press Bristol Graphic Design favourites are Johnston Sans by Edward Johnston (1872 - 1944), and Transport by Jock Kinneir (1917 - 1974) and Margaret Calvert.
